HOW DO JOINT BONES FUNCTION?

A Joint is where two bones meet in your body in order to allow movement in various directions. The immovable joints of our body are the ones located in our skull. But even they will move slightly under great pressure to prevent too much damage. In our bodies there are four different kinds of movable joints.

PIVOT JOINTS. They help rotation and are located in your elbows and neck.

HINGE JOINTS. They allow a back-and-forth movement like a door, and are located in your elbows, knees, fingers, toes and neck.

BALL-AND-SOCKET JOINTS, They allow the greatest freedom of movement and are located in your shoulders and hips.

GLIDING JOINTS. They are located in your wrists.

Machine experts go to great lengths to see that movable parts are properly oiled to prevent friction. Have you ever thought about your body joints? Do you realize that in your lifetime you never even have to grease them once? Let Mother Nature explain. She made two provisions for the care and preservation of your joints. In the first place, she provided a thin layer of smooth, elastic cartilage to protect the bones from friction. To further enhance the smooth movement of the joints, she provided a liquid substance called synovial fluid to keep them moist and lubricated.

Now isn’t our body a wonderful machine?
