In this case your soap will have a natural wine-in-lye aroma that isn’t at all agreeable. You will definitely want to add fragrance or essential oils to mask the natural aroma. Choosing the aromas to use is made easy for you. When reading any description of wine you will find that many of the words used to describe it will match essential or fragrance oils that you hopefully already have in your collection. For example, the words used to describe many light, dry white wines include apple, apricot, citrus, peach, spice and floral, whilst some chardonnays are described using words such as butter, popcorn, vanilla and honey. I see on the label of my sauvignon blanc that I should be able to detect the flavours of citrus notes (lemon, lime and grapefruit), summer fruit (peach, nectarine, apricot, papaya), fresh cut grass, sweet peas, smoke and gooseberry. Red wines are typically heavy and you’ll need a selection of more robust fragrance and essential oils, such as cherries, berries, vanilla, chocolate, raisins, oak, liquorice, plum and tobacco.

There you see – all you need is Google and a friendly wine merchant and you’ll easily be able to find out what kind of fragrance and essential oil you can use to enhance your wine soaps. But if in doubt, use grape fragrance oil.
