chapter 6

calming your angry mind with compassion

In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.

—Mother Teresa

Have you ever had the experience of witnessing the pain of a perfect stranger and feeling moved to help them? Most people have. Or, most certainly you have had the experience of hearing about the pain of a loved one or a friend and rushing immediately to do something to help. Compassion is the human quality, part of that innate goodness of heart we all have, that recognizes the pain of another and gives rise to the urge to do something to relieve that pain.
