We say, “Look, God, how busy I am!” We equate exhaustion with an effective, full life. . . . We tack up performance statistics in the hope that we are counting for something in our generation. But for what or for whom? . . . A Christian is free to stop running away from life in overinvolvement.15

The real answer to stress is found in applying God’s Word to your life. What I have done with many counselees is to suggest they read the following passages aloud several times a day. You may want to do the same.

Then [Ezra] told them, Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold. (Neh. 8:10 AMP-CE)

And He will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is his treasure. (Isa. 33:6 NASB)

You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on you, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. (Isa. 26:3 AMP-CE)

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. (Phil. 4:6 AMP-CE)

Now that we’ve looked at some of the information about anger, let’s take a detour from it in the next two chapters and explore two related emotions that many women struggle with: fear and anxiety, and depression.
