Happiness and positive psychology expert Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania says that optimists treat failure as learning experiences and believe they can do better next time. If you’re not naturally optimistic, that’s okay—you can actually practice being optimistic, says Seligman. Once you do, you will be less likely to see obstacles as permanent and the cause of your problems.
